I swear, just this once I have to get political
I hate to do it but this is just too much. When I moved down here a few years back I first lived in North Miami off 135th Street, not the best area and certainly not a wealthy neighborhood by any stretch of the means. During the major hurricanes we were without power for 4 weeks - far longer than almost any other area. I hate to call racism but having been there on the ground I find it hard to believe that racism and classism weren’t a huge factor. Fast forward about three years and I’m up on 135th for the first time in a while when I see this:
Those stretch the length of 135th street and are a pure abomination. I guarantee you would never, ever, ever see this in a “nice” area like Miami Shores or Coconut Grove. Just in case you don’t get the scale - those poles are seriously the same size and height as the light poles on major highways. While property values may not have been high in the area this sure doesn’t help nor it is a beautification by any means. Lastly, sure they look huge and all but are they any more durable in the event of a hurricane?
